In
the later years, Stephen Longstreet dated his art on the time
period the art represented and not the date the work was created.
Art
that states a year prior to 1939, was done much later.
Henri Weiner did not become Stephen Longstreet until 1939.
Hence, there would be no "STEPHEN LONGSTREET" created
art prior to 1939.
Rule of thumb: If it looks recent, it is recent.
If
it is missing a circle with SL inside it is very likely 1970s-1980s.
The graphical "Jazz A-Z" book has art mostly from the
1980s. It states 1930s, 1920s and 1910 (the artist would then be
3 years of age). This got past a few museum curators. If you
have a collage dated 1950s or earlier it was most likely done in
1970s or 1980s.
There IS "HENRI WEINER" art from
the late 1920s and 1930s and it will be signed either "Henri"
or "He."
